In 2020, Google unveiled the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G), then in 2021, the Pixel 5a 5G was added to the mix. As a result, Google now has three phones that are all very identical, including 5G and many of the same capabilities.
So, how do these phones stack up? We compared all of the devices to make it easier for you to play spot the difference.
The Pixel 5 was introduced as the low-cost flagship phone for 2020, with the Pixel 4a 5G following closely behind. Pixel 5a 5G is an upgrade to the Pixel 4a 5G, and it comes in at a lower price than the phone it replaces.
The Pixel 5a 5G is priced at $449 and will go on sale on August 17th, with pre-orders beginning immediately. It will be available only in the United States and Japan, with shipping beginning on August 26.
With a rear square camera in the top left corner, a rear fingerprint scanner, and a punch-hole display on the front, recent Pixel devices all appear the same.
The Google Pixel 5a was introduce as 2020’s premium gadget, a slightly smaller flagship with a higher-quality finish. It has a metal back shell with an IP68 rating to protect it from water and dust while still facilitating wireless charging. It comes in two colors: black and sage green.
The Pixel 4a 5G is larger than the Pixel 5 and has a polycarbonate (plastic) back with a matte finish and a black colour option. It added a 3.5mm headphone jack to the mix, giving it a leg up on the Pixel 5 for those who prefer wired headphones, although it lacked an IP rating.
Pixel 5a 5G is a touch bigger than the Pixel 4a 5G, but it retains the same basic design. So it will look similar to the Pixel 4a 5G, with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a metal unibody. The Pixel 5a 5G, on the other hand, has an IP67 rating, which is a welcome bonus for a gadget of this calibre.
The Pixel 5a 5G comes in Mostly Black colour with “forest green undertones” and an olive green power button, according to Google.
A 6-inch OLED display is feature on the Google Pixel 5. The screen boasts a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels with a 432ppi, a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and HDR support. A 90Hz refresh rate is also include.
The Pixel 4a 5G boasts a 6.2-inch OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate, as does the Pixel 4a 5G. The resolution is 413ppi and the resolution is 2340 x 1080 pixels.
The Pixel 5a 5G is the largest of the bunch, with a 6.34-inch OLED display. The resolution remains full HD+, and the refresh rate remains at 60Hz, so it’s essentially a duplicate of the Pixel 4a 5G’s performance.
The Google Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a 5G are both power by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G platform, which has built-in 5G. It’s the same as the Pixel 5a 5G , which is based on the same platform and features integrated 5G, so there’s a lot of overlap between the two devices.
The Pixel 5 has a little increase in RAM, but it’s only a minor difference, so we’d expecting these phones to operate similarly in everyday use.
The battery is where there is a significant difference: the Pixel 5a 5G has a 4620mAh battery. Which is the largest of the bunch. This provides it with a clear advantage over the Pixel 4a 5G it replaces, and it will almost certainly outlast the Pixel 5. The Pixel 5a 5G’s major distinguishing characteristic looks to be its large battery.
Wireless charging and reverse wireless charging are available on the Pixel 5. A small premium feature that gives you a couple of extra options on this top device that none of the others does.
The Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G have a dual-camera setup with a main 12.2-megapixel, the 1.4-m sensor with an f/1.7 aperture and an ultra-wide 16-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. Their front camera has an aperture of f/2.0 and is 8 megapixels.
The Pixel 5a 5G will have the same camera configuration as the Pixel 6 before the Pixel 6 gets a far more significant update.
With that in mind, we may expect nearly identical performance from all of these devices. Pixel phones are known for their computational photography, consistency in a variety of scenarios, and low-light capabilities. The Pixel 5a 5G should deliver the same results.
There aren’t many distinctions between these Pixel devices, which may signal the closure of an era in Pixel history. The look, feel, and hardware performance of the Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, and Pixel 5a 5G are all fairly similar, with the Pixel 6 slated to make significant modifications.
While the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5a 5G have the same fundamental hardware and camera experience. The Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5a 5G have a lower refresh rate on the display.
The Pixel 5 retains a few premium features that aren’t available elsewhere, including higher-quality materials, IP68 waterproofing, and wireless charging – but with larger phones available at lower prices, the Pixel A series model is hard to resist.
